At the beginning of this century, Researcher Yang Shiji, in the Research Institute of Highway Ministry of Transport, took the lead in putting forward the requirements and suggestions for this kind of compaction machinery. The requirements are that the compaction effect shall not be less than 25KJ impact roller, which can strengthen the parts where the impact roller is inconvenient to construct in layers or reaches the standard, and it shall not damage the original soil structure and adjacent structures. Based on the above requirements, Mr. Cao Bin, one of Hengda Machinery’s fonders, is entrusted to design the China’s impacting machine. In early 2003, China's first Rapid Hydraulic Compactor was born in Taian, Shandong Province. The ram mass of the first prototype is 2.5t and the impact energy is 30kj. The 5t wheel loader is used as the load-bearing equipment. Through the inspection by Xi 'an Road Construction Test center in Ministry of Transport, and in combination with the experimental study of the rapid hydraulic compactor’s application effect in constructing expressways in Gansu, Anhui, Guangdong and other provinces. In January 2004, the project "Research on Rapid Hydraulic Compactor and its Application" passed the technical appraisal organized by Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and the conclusion is that it is the first creation in China and reached the international advanced level.
According to the patentee of the compactor - Mr. Cao Bin's definition, for RAPID HYDRALIC COMPACTOR (abbreviated as R.H.C.), "Rapid" refers to high hitting frequency. When the ram is raised to the height, the hitting frequency reaches the design value. And the hitting frequency is set to not less than 12 strokes/min in product design stage, now it rises to 30 strokes/min.
